Birmingham Black Barons 1948 Authentic Wool Road Baseball Jersey
AN EXACT REPLICA OF THE 1948 BLACK BARONS ROAD JERSEY
History: In 1948, the Black Barons featured a precocious teenage outfielder named Willie Mays, who had already made a name for himself as a multi-sport star at Fairfield Industrial High School in nearby Fairfield, Alabama. Mays played for the Chattanooga Choo-Choos during the 1947 season but opted to play closer to home in Birmingham for the 1948 season, helping the Black Barons defeat the mighty Kansas City Monarchs to claim the 1948 Negro American League pennant.
This jersey is an homage to that 1948 team, made with an authentic gray baseball flannel and adorned with Mays’ “8” on the back.Â
In partnership with the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum (NLBM), we are proud to offer this authentic wool flannel jersey. A portion of proceeds from this product will support the NLBM in Kansas City. For more information about the museum, visit www.nlbm.com
