Sioux City Ghosts

Born from a boys club in Sioux City’s West 7th Street neighborhood during the 1920s, the Sioux City Ghosts were a Black fast-pitch softball team who became legends of the barnstorming circuit during the Great Depression. The Ghosts dazzled crowds with displays of skill one moment then cracked them up with on-field pranks the next. They rode bicycles in the outfield, pitched melons instead of softballs, and even challenged the Harlem Globetrotters’ softball team to a game, which was unfortunately never played. We uncovered the Sioux City Ghosts’ striking skull-and-crossbones logo buried deep in the historical archives, and it’s now the centerpiece of our newest collection of authentic vintage-inspired apparel.
