New Orleans Pelicans

The Pelicans spent a few years as affiliates of the St. Louis Cardinals and adopted the beautiful manual embroidery style of St. Louis to their own team name. The Crescent City had a proud seventy year tradition of Southern baseball. The 1905 team had the distinction of winning the pennant while playing the last six weeks on the road due to an outbreak of yellow fever in New Orleans. The Pels appeared in the Dixie Series five times between 1923 and 1934 winning in '33 against San Antonio and topping Galveston in '34.
