History: When the former Boston and then Milwaukee Braves moved to Atlanta in 1966, MLB planted its flag in the American South for the first time. Keeping with the trend that accompanied the new double-knit uniforms in the early 1970s, the Braves jettisoned their traditional emblems and colors, and adopted a palette of light blue and red, with a new stylized lowercase “a”. Although derided as “softball uniforms” at the time, this Braves style is firmly in the memory of fans because it coincides with Hank Aaron’s breaking of Babe Ruth’s monumental career home run record in 1974.
