League: United States Baseball League
History: The Brown Bombers were charter members of the United States League, a Black circuit organized by Brooklyn Dodger president Branch Rickey and Pittsburgh Crawfords owner Gus Greenlee. They previously had played in the short-lived Negro Major League in 1945. After one season in the USBL, the Brown Bombers returned to independent play, sometimes barnstorming with the Havana Palomas. The team was managed by veteran player and manager Elwood “Bingo” DeMoss.
