History: The Cubs brought blue pinstripes to their home uniforms in 1957, and this Cub logo made its first appearance on the sleeve in 1962. The 1961 and 1962 seasons would see the Cubs try an unusual concept: Rather than have a conventional manager, there would be an 8-member “College of Coaches”, with the manager position (or “head coach”) rotating among the staff. This concept was dreamed up by catcher El Tappe (who was also one of the coaches) and approved by owner Phil Wrigley. The success of the concept can be judged on the results. The Cubs finished seventh of eight teams in 1961 and ninth of ten teams in 1962 (only above the lowly expansion Mets).
