League: United Soccer Association
History: Hoping to beat the rival National Professional Soccer League to the punch, the USA decided to save time by importing whole teams from Europe and Latin America for their inaugural season. Cleveland brought in Stoke City of the English Football League to become the Stokers. The Stokers (now with their own players) survived the merger of the two leagues in 1968 and finished with a strong 14-7-11 record, but lost to Atlanta in the playoffs. Home matches were played at Cleveland Municipal Stadium.
