League: Independent Black Club
History: The Pittsburgh-based Grays were organized by Entrepreneur Cumberland Posey in 1912 and joined the short-lived American Negro League in 1929. After that league’s demise the team returned to independent status for the next few years. One of the most successful franchises in Black baseball, the Grays operated for thirty-eight seasons, winning three World Championships in that time. Fourteen Grays have been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, and five Homestead players played on MLB teams.
