History: Originally known as Old Times Lager in 1900, the G. Heileman Brewing Company of La Crosse, Wisconsin changed the beer’s name to Old Style Lager following a 1902 lawsuit. The name stuck for the rest of the remainder of Old Style’s existence. That existence was put on hold during prohibition, with Old Style being replaced by New Style Lager, a near-beer containing less than 0.5% alcohol to help get the company through prohibition, after which Old Style Lager was reborn. They dropped “Lager” from the name in 1957, becoming simply Old Style. Under the name Old Style the beer was widely popular throughout the Midwest, including being a sponsor of the Chicago Cubs.
