History: Richmond replaced Baltimore in the IL in '54 when the old minor league Orioles had to make way for the transfer of the Browns from St. Louis (the Browns adopted the traditional "Orioles" name). The Virginians were managed by former White Sox shortstop Luke Appling, who was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1964.
