Caruthersville Pilots
Caruthersville, a town in the "boot heel" of Missouri, was part of the vast Cardinal farm system, which in 1937 encompassed 33 clubs (by contrast the Chicago White Sox only had one minor league affiliate, and the Philadelphia Athletics, two). The Pilots team featured future Cardinals third baseman Whitey Kurowski, who was a five-time major league all-star despite missing part of his right forearm due to a childhood illness. Kurowski is featured in Dave Frishberg's famed baseball song "Van Lingle Mungo".
