League: American League
History: This version of the Orioles is unrelated to the current AL team. In 1901 Ban Johnson’s American League was still an “outlaw” league competing with the older National League for players and fans. Having been blocked by the New York Giants from placing a franchise in that city, Baltimore was chosen instead. John McGraw was manager, and the roster included players like Roger Bresnahan and Joe McGinnity. After McGraw left Baltimore to go to the Giants, he took several players with him and the Orioles were severely weakened. The club collapsed after the 1902 season and was replaced by the New York Highlanders, today known as the Yankees.
