History: The name "Whales" was actually the second-most popular selected by fans in 1915's naming contest, but Charles Weeghman did not want to call his ballclub the Chicago Chickens. With player-manager Joe Tinker –– of “Tinker-to-Evers-to-Chance” fame –– at the helm, the Whales won the second and last Federal League pennant by just one percentage point over the Kansas City Packers.
