History: In 1972, Washington lost its Senators for the second time, as the team that replaced the original club a decade earlier fled to Dallas-Ft. Worth. The newly renamed Texas Rangers set down roots at Arlington’s Turnpike Stadium, an improved minor league park rechristened Arlington Stadium. The manager that first year was former Red Sox great Ted Williams, who had led the Senators to their only winning season in 1969. Because of the oppressive heat and humidity at Arlington Stadium, the Rangers played most of their weekend home games at night. Ranger fans waited until 1974 to enjoy their first winning season, when Texas finished second with a record of 84-76.
