History: The Penn Quakers, competing in the NCAA Division I as members of the Ivy League, have seen their greatest athletic successes come in fencing. The men’s and women’s fencing teams have claimed the school's only national championships with three and one respectively. The school’s largest athletic contribution may have come in the Summer of 1980 when Penn’s Franklin Field hosted the Liberty Bell Classic, a track & field event that was held as an alternative event during the 1980 Summer Olympics boycott.
